Open borders for Mediterranean cooperation in the digital age
How digital is moving the borders of business and cooperation in the Mediterranean?
Which are the new sectors, practices and stakeholders emerging? Why does the EMEA (Europe - Middle-East - Africa) region become the new area of exchange for political and economic decision-makers?
These questions were at the centre of the rich debates between speakers and participants in the EMEA Business Forum, organised on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of ANIMA Investment Network and in the context of the Mediterranean Economic Week on 2 and 3 November 2016 in Marseille.
Business leaders, investors, representatives of innovation ecosystems, researchers, national and local public decision-makers, international cooperation institutions and civil society… All participants shared their experiences and visions to shape this third industrial revolution which changes the Mediterranean area as the rest of the world. First, digital is about the emergence of new diversified uses (finance, health, education but also agriculture or industry) based on technologies offering “the world in your hands” to use the refrain from Candace Johnson, President of EBAN, the European network of Business Angels. Digital is also the unique opportunity to “move from an African continent submerged of merchandises to a global region creating wealth” (Tarak Cherif, President of CONECT Tunisia and Vice-Chairman of ANIMA) and to build a region that “imposes as a key space for dialogue in front of the Asian and American continents” (Khalil Laabidi, Director General of FIPA Tunisia and Chairman of ANIMA).
