Tunisia - Water reserves: Our situation is far from comfortable
Desalination of seawater, the establishment of regional action plans in the governorates most affected by the lack of drinking water and the construction of two new dams / reservoirs are the main actions in national water management strategy, according to Abdallah Rabhi, Secretary of State for Water Resources and Fisheries.
Rabhi spoke in an interview with TAP, about the general situation of water resources in the country and the major projects planned to develop this resource.
Some studies mention that Tunisia is heading inevitably towards a water crisis. What do you think?
The water crisis is not inevitable, provided that water is properly managed and that the resource is saved.
By 2030, our population would be 13 million.
The resources are limited, but we must not forget an important fact, Tunisia has 1350 kilometers of coastline and desalination is a solution now widely used in several countries.
It is true that our situation is far from comfortable but I would say that it is manageable.
