Tunisia: a project for the fight against water shortage

Overshadowed by the recent socio-political turmoil in Tunisia, the Water 2050 project is now back on the agenda. In early July, the African Water Facility (AWF) announced a donation of more than € 1.3 million to manage water in a fair, sustainable and efficient way in the North African country.

Launched as part of the five-year socio-economic development plan of Tunisia 2009-2014, the Water Project 2050 proposes a new roadmap that meets the requirements of the new Tunisian Constitution: the right to access to water for all citizens, conservation and sustainable management of water, the principle of positive discrimination in favor of disadvantaged regions and decentralization and local governance.
