Bio-districts to boost rural areas and rural communities

Theme (water, food, energy):

A bio-district is a geographical area  where  farmers, citizens, tourist operators, asso¬ciations and public authorities enter into an agreement for the sustainable management of local resources, based on organic production and consumption (short food chain, purchas¬ing groups, organic canteens in public offices and schools). Bio-districts can help face challenges in six main areas: 1) Mix Farming, 2) Land access, 3) Fairer relations in the supply chain, 4) Food sovereignty, 5) Simplified organic produce certification system, 6) Organic communication. With the spring of a bio-district all natural, cultural, productive resources of a specific territory are interlinked among each others and can be boosted and valorised by local policies oriented to the environmental protection and the promotion of peculiar traditions and local know-hows.
