Joint PhD Programme in Integrated Management of Water, Soil and Waste

The main objective of this PhD programme is to provide graduate students with detailed knowledge, critical understanding, strategies and tools to take an interdisciplinary and integrated approach towards the management of water, soil and waste.

The joint PhD programme aims at creating a new generation of environmental scientists, engineers and managers to conduct, promote and provide guidance on the sustainable management of water, soil and waste. These resources and their sustainable management are of concern to the United Nations and its member states, particularly to developing countries and emerging economies.

The programme has a strong focus on developing countries.

WATER POrT: Capacity building on water resources management in a changing climate in Egypt

The REC is inviting applications from experts to provide capacity-building activities to broaden the knowledge and skills of national water authorities concerning the application of the integrated water resources management (IWRM) approach as the basic methodological framework for improving water resources management and adaptation measures in a changing climate in Egypt.

This includes supporting improved understanding and knowledge about climate change and adaptation measures; assisting in incorporating climate change aspects into country-specific flood and drought risk management plans; and preparing technical reports and trainings according to a methodology to be agreed with the beneficiaries.

The profile of the candidate must focus on:

-Economic analysis and measurement of the impacts of climate change on rural / agricultural territories,

- Economic modeling, evaluation and forecasting applied to rural territories in a high uncertainty context,

- Economic studies of main sectors of rural territories - agricultural and environmental sectors (water, land, forests), energy and tourism sectors and the adaptation of these territories to climate change.

CIHEAM Bari is the Italian branch of CIHEAM (International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies), an intergovernmental organization based in Paris. CIHEAM Bari is publishing this vacancy concerning the selection of n.1 Junior Administrative Expert in the framework of the above-mentioned Programme.

The initiative has been conceived by the Egyptian Government in order to activate a soft loan scheme aiming at developing the modernization of the regional centres for machinery services, the agricultural Cooperatives and the ARC research station operating in the Governorates of Minia and Fayoum.

The selected candidate will work as a part of the energy department at the General Secretariat of the Arab League (LAS). The energy department works to support and promote the development of the energy sector in the Arab region and increase Arab integration in the energy field in general, electrical and renewable energy and energy efficiency in particular.

This includes organizing, attending and participating in workshops and conferences aimed at disseminating knowledge and discussing key issues in the energy field.

In addition, the position helps applicants in develop their analytical skills and building knowledge in the energy sector, as well as the identification of key players regionally and internationally. It also assist them in developing contacts and building strong relationships with decision-makers and various organizations and institutions.

The Department of Water and Climate Risk offers a position for a PhD researcher for the research project ‘Global risk assessment from natural hazards’ The PhD position will be funded by the NWO Vidi global risk assessment from natural hazards.

Content of the research
Our envisaged goal is to develop an integrated hydro-behavioral model that estimates drought risks and enables the evaluation of different short-term and long-term strategies to reduce drought risk (in agriculture and water supply).

Request for Expressions of Interest for the Regional Implementation Team

CEPF requests that organizations interested in serving as the Regional Implementation Team (RIT) for the Mediterranean Basin biodiversity hotspot submit an expression of interest per the announcement posted here. Please also review the posted RIT terms of reference, which give a full explanation of CEPF's expectations.

The Request for Proposals should be released to eligible parties in early March 2017, with an expected due date for full proposals of approximately 30 March 2017. There will likely be subsequent clarifications and formal approval of the RIT by the CEPF Donor Council prior to award, leading to a formal contract by June 2017, with the RIT starting in July 2017.
