1st meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Expert Group (EMEG)
The first meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Expert Group (EMEG) will convey about 50 experts from Europe and South Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, Turkey) having different backgrounds and representing different stakes: research, innovation, policy, private sector, socio-economics, gender issue and others.
The main objective of the meeting is to discuss ways and means to advance the quality of the Euro-Mediterranean research area with a focus on three main societal challenges: water resources, food quality and security, energy.
The meeting will deliver recommendations for the Euro-Mediterranean agenda, particularly to research policy makers of Members States, Mediterranean Partner Countries as well as European institutions and programmes (particularly the upcoming EU Research Programme “Horizon 2020”).
In this meeting, EMEG will take stock of and systematise inputs coming from the open consultation launched by the MedSpring project in order to collect comments and opinions coming from a broader public of active citizens, researchers, entrepreneurs, policy-makers, members of civil society and everyone else who has a stake in food, water and energy in the Mediterranean region. The open consultation has been a first step towards the establishment of a fruitful dialogue with a broader public on the three societal challenges identified.
In continuation with the objective of building a fruitful dialogue with civil society and a broader spectrum of stakeholders, the meeting of Lisbon will be streamed. Everyone will have the opportunity of following the event online. More significantly, during the 2 days-meeting, everyone will have the chance to interact and engage with the EMEG group via our social media channel. You can pose questions, make comments and provide suggestions to the EMEG work.
The meeting will be an opportunity for an open dialogue between EMEG experts and you!
