Water for Food Security: A Vital Resource to Feed the Planet
Fri, 2016-09-23 09:05
Water is central to the productivity and resilience of global agriculture. We need to use the precious resource wisely in order to improve crop production and feed a growing population. Irrigated lands are twice as productive as rainfed and are less vulnerable to changing rainfall patterns with climate change, but require significant investment. Join agricultural and international development experts for a discussion of the opportunity and challenges of sustainably securing water for food security.
The conversation features:
Dan Glickman, Former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture
Dr. Thomas Harter, Robert M. Hagan Endowed Chair in Water Management and Policy, University of California, Davis
Dr. Mark Rosegrant, Director of the Environment and Production Technology Division, International Food Policy Research Institute
Dr. Robert Bertram, Chief Scientist, Bureau for Food Security, U.S. Agency for International Development
Dr. Josette Lewis, Associate Director, World Food Center, University of California, Davis
