Freedom Machine

Imagine a generation of producers replacing today’s generation of consumers in the Arab world. Bashar Humeid, director of Meezan Sustainable Development, shows us how through his freedom machine, a rooftop greenhouse that provides “the infrastructure of freedom through self sufficiency in energy, water and food production.

Meezan is developing low-tech methods for building, farming and energy/water saving in Jordan and the Middle East.

The "Freedom Machine" is not an invitation to return to the romanticized rural village life. Instead, it redefines the village and re-places it to the context of the city.

Over a period of two months intensive and continuous labour a team from Meezan, a not for profit company, managed to establish the first model for agriculture and renewable solar energy production, that is capable of being spread and replicated. All this took place on the rooftop of one of the buildings in Amman.
