Refutrees is a grass-roots initiative that aims to respond to community needs by building projects that are sustainable and conscious of the local environment across refugee camps in the MENA region. Refutrees grew out of field research conducted across refugee communities in the West Bank and Lebanon. In addressing the health based needs of refugees, a community health assessment concluded that the solution lies in creating sustainable projects that are unique in their approach to health, environment and livelihoods. In observing existing development models on the ground that are donor reliant, Refutrees hopes to explore sustainable concepts that are holistic in their understanding of the needs of local communities.
Our mission: To re-design traditional paradigms in development to build local livelihoods through grass-roots enterprises that are eco- friendly.
Our approach: We believe in premising our projects through engagement and research in identified communities. In understanding local narratives, both economic and political, we work with local communities in seeking platforms that are entrepreneurial, green and sustainable.
