Jordan: Women from rural communities trained as leaders in agriculture
Women make up 65% of farm laborers in Jordan but on average earn only 4JOD per day, while mean earn an average of 15-17JOD.
A national-level training session was held in Amman on November 21 and 22, 2016, and was attended by over 20 participants, with the shared ambition to promote rural women’s leadership in Jordan. The two-day training was attended by 10 women from rural communities in Irbid and Mafraq governorates, alongside national stakeholders from Jordan and the region working on women’s rights, including the Arab Women’s Organisation (AWO), the Arab Network for Civic Education (ANHRE), the Princess Basma Youth Resource Center (PBYRC) and the Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Rights (PYALARA).
Participants had the opportunity to increase their understanding of women’s leadership, learnt how to use advocacy as an effective tool and actively engaged in exercises. An expert from the Royal Scientific Society led a session on climate change in Jordan, including its specific impact on women and women’s role in adaptation and mitigation techniques.
