Women's groups for food security in Tunisia

"The promotion of women's groups for food security and income generating in Tunisia (PFR)" project launched in April 2015 to improve opportunities of women's participation of the North-west and Centre-west regions, allowed one hundred farmers to benefit from a training in matter of sustainable agriculture and healthy food.

This project, funded by the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) by 350,000 Euros, is part of cooperation between the Tunisian Department of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), on Wednesday, National Coordinator of project Samira Dhaoui said.

Taking the floor as part of closing the project, the official said that the objective sought is to improve the opportunities of women’s participation in rural sphere groups. These groups, which allow women better access to resources, finance and markets for marketing of agricultural products are characterized by low organizational, material and technical capacity, the official explains.
