Algeria and the food challenge in the Mediterranean

Nearly three years after its signature in Algiers by the countries of the western Mediterranean, known as the 5 + 5 dialogue, the joint declaration on food security at the regional level, is needed more than ever as a strategic path for regional cooperation in the vital areas of the economy such as agriculture, agri-food trade, environmental protection and natural resources.

The Algiers Declaration, adopted at the first Ministerial Conference on Agriculture and Food Security in November 2013 and supported by the agriculture ministers of the 13 member countries of CIHEAM (International Centre for High Mediterranean agronomic studies), the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, rural development and fisheries is the basis for supporting the engagement around the approach defined in Algiers and informed the the meeting held earlier this week in the Albanian capital, Tirana.
