EMEG Meeting: an insight into gender

The MedSpring project addresses three main societal challenges in the Mediterranean region: food security, water scarcity, and energy. Although the project recognizes the importance of addressing these challenges, it does not ignore the existence of other issues that cut across the three challenges.

Among the horizontal issues that the project takes into account, we can cite, socio-economic sustainability, climate variability, governance and research system capacity, gender and demographic growth.

In this interview, professor Juan Antonio Sagardoy points to the necessity of better addressing gender issues in the Mediterranean region.

“Gender is a critical issue at the moment in the Mediterranean region. Unfortunately, the access of women to land, water, and energy in recent years has not even improved, it has decreased. We really have to take this as a societal change that has to be improved”.
