Tourism becomes part of Morocco's sustainable development path

Promoter of an ambitious plan for renewable energy development, the Kingdom of Morocco also supports sustainable tourism in all its forms. Concrete commitments span from financial incentives to build in an environmentally friendly way to water supplies specifically designed for golf courses.

Many countries, including Morocco, committed to limit their CO2 emissions. The tourism sector contributes to these emissions. Morocco's intention to develop the tourism sector is not inconsistent with the country's commitments at international level?

On the contrary, and that's what we wanted to show during the COP 21. Tourism accounts for 8% of our GDP. It is the first foreign exchange earner and the second source of employment after agriculture, with 500.000 jobs. Our country is the first tourist destination in Africa in 2014, before South Africa, with 11 million visitors in 2015 - including 3.5 million French tourists. We have been put in an unfavourable position due to the terrorist threats in North Africa, but the number of tourists is still rising.
